We all know when you get engaged most girls are all about the dress and decor but one very important thing that can take lots of precision planning is the Hen Do. There are so many things you can do now and not all of them have to involve strippers and big inflatable willies!
We have a post from Penny and Mona from Hens with Pens giving you a great idea for an activity to include on your hen do.
Hens with Pens is a weird and wonderful take on hen party life drawing. To draw out the the inner creative spirit of our hens we provide them with berets and moustaches to don throughout their two hours, making the traditional life drawing class full of fun and helping hens bond on their important party night. To set the scene, Hens with Pens also provides a soundtrack of retro swing music, making the session more lyrical and tongue in cheek. If you’ve never drawn before, it doesn’t matter, we think it’s more important you have fun and we recognise that creativity comes in all shapes and sizes.
In the first hour, we get hens to do some low-pressure portraits of each other that can and usually do have hilarious consequences! These always embrace the personalities of the group but we also teach traditional techniques for those that want to pick up a few tips. At halftime, we sneak in the model so he’s a surprise for the Bride-to-be. My business partner, Penny, agrees that our most common questions are “Is the model nude?”, and “Does he get shy?”. But it’s all in a day’s work for a life model. As trained artists, Penny and I understand the male-dominated traditions of the art academy and life-drawing, and that’s why we like to have so much fun subverting this institution by dressing as the cliché artiste, and drawing a male model, for a modern twist!
Hens with Pens parties are definitely an unusual way to embrace traditional creativity with contemporary culture!
